Servocell Expands Global Customer Base with Soha Sun in Iran

Servocell, the specialist in piezo actuator technologies, today announced the expansion of its global customer base with Soha Sun, the third biggest access control specialist in Iran. Regional leader in the area of smart card market and RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) technology, Soha Sun will be using Servocell's Active Latch technology as part of its integrated RFID electronic door lock for use in Intelligent Building Systems. For the first time, this new low power, low cost solution will make electronic door locks affordable to both commercial and domestic markets.

To date, the implementation and running costs of an electronic door lock have been prohibitive to domestic users. With doors requiring extensive alterations to retrofit the system in place of the ordinary locks and wiring the locks to an external power, electronic access control has only been a viable option for hotels and businesses. However, Servocell's Active Latch is a very low power and low maintenance solution which enables electronic locks to run on their own independent power source, creating a viable battery life of 12 months or more. These attributes, coupled with the fact that the new lock can be retrofitted within a matter of minutes into the traditional lock set mounting features, ensures a reliable and cost-effective solution which can be used as stand-alone or which works in a network.

"Using Servocell's Active Latch technology has allowed us to take our vision and make it a reality," commented Saeed Momeni Sadr, Director of Soha Sun. "Using Active Latch, ensures our door lock becomes more reliable and secure, quieter and accessible to a wider range of users."

RFID is a generic term for technologies that use radio waves to automatically identify people or objects. An identification technology that can be embedded into most products or materials and which can be updated on the fly, RFID does not require line of sight to be read. Integrated into electronic locks and operating as part of an Intelligent Building System makes RFID-enabled, unique proximity access cards solutions ideal for use in a host of commercial setting such as elevators, restaurants and shopping centres in addition to the front doors of domestic properties.
Remarking on Servocell's collaboration with Soha Sun, Simon Powell, CEO at Servocell, says: "We are delighted that Soha Sun has chosen to use our Active Latch technology in its new locks. Integrating RFID with an electronic lock which can be operated by battery-power is going to enable electronic access control to go mainstream."

Soha Sun's RFID enabled electronic lock will be generally available by the end of 2006.
