AL1

The AL1 is a "normally free" lock/clutch mechanism which operates as shown below. AL1 based locks can be either power-to-lock or power-to-unlock, depending on their design (download the AL1 Application Design Guides).

At the heart of the AL1 lies a low power Piezo-ceramic Actuator which deflects to control the mechanism.

Strength is provided by a sturdy blocking strut which engages with a ledge in the plunger to block the plunger's movement in the locked state. The block's rotation is controlled by the low power piezo actuator built into the plunger.

  • Power Off - the actuator stays inside the plunger which is free to fully retract;
  • Power On - the actuator engages with a small tooth on the block; any further movement of the plunger causes the block to rotate into its locking position.
